Piggyback shock absorbers are characterised by the fact that there is an expansion tank on the side of the shock absorber housing, which performs various functions. 

 

The expansion tank is an additional reservoir for oil, some of which has an enlarged surface area due to cooling fins. If the oil in shock absorbers becomes too hot due to extreme loads, the damping function is lost due to gas formation in the oil. To prevent this, the additional oil reservoir increases the oil quantity and enlarges the cooling surface of the shock absorber housing so that the oil as a whole does not heat up so quickly due to the extreme load. 

 

To prevent leakage during transport, only our shock absorber housings are filled with 100CPS oil as standard. For full performance, the expansion tank must also be well filled with oil.
